Location

You’ve heard it all the time. “Location. Location. Location.” Yes, it matters a lot! When you purchase a home generally, you plan to live there for a quite a while, so it’s important to figure out what matters most to you in a neighborhood. Here are some things to consider when looking at a neighborhood or city:

  • Safety
  • Schools
  • Dining / Restaurants
  • Shopping / Groceries
  • Commute

Plan Ahead

Think about home renovations you may like to do someday and envision that in homes you look at. Think to yourself, “Is there room for a breakfast bar, or island in this kitchen?” Not only do this inside the home, but outside too. “Is there room for a pool, trampoline, or pond in the backyard?” Your future self will thank you later.

Look For Issues Upfront

Don’t waste your time and money getting a private home inspection or appraisal just to figure out obvious issues. You don’t need to be an expert to see that there are cracks in the foundation or that the gutters are falling off the house. Take a look at the appliances. Do they look old? How much more use do you think you could get out them? You may have to prepared to buy new appliances and make repairs.
